The International Center for Antidrug warns the Moldovan authorities about drug trafficking and use that have reached unprecedented proportions. According to the Center’s data, there are about 150,000 drug addicts in Moldova. Over 10,000 of them are dependent on heroine, IPN reports.
The NGO sent an informative note to the authorities, saying drug use at universities almost trebled in 2012-2013, involving 19% of all the students. This figure at pre-university education institutions doubled from 4% to 8% in the 14-16 age bracket. The teens say it is rather easy for them to buy drugs.
A person becomes adduced to drugs in about three years since starting taking drugs. A huge wave is expected in 2015-2016.
The International Center for Antidrug calls on the authorities to take measures to combat drug use. The President is asked to convene the Supreme Security Council, the Head of Parliament - to organize parliamentary hearings, the Premier - to summon decision makers responsible for combating organized crime and corruption, while the Prosecutor General – to check how the competent institutions deal with this problem.
