The Government of Slovakia donated €15,000 for strengthening the secretariat of the “Pro Europe” Platform that was launched on June 30 this year by a number of Moldovan NGOs, IPN reports.
The “Pro Europe” Platform, created to strengthen the European integration option and the democratic development of Moldova, is open to all those who share the European values and ideals. It calls on the mass media, civil society and the public authorities to become actively involved in the promotion of the European integration and in informing all the citizens about the advantages and challenges of the European course.
Head of the Resource Center “Pro dialog” Lilia Snegureac on September 1 said that over 50 NGOs signed the statement by which they support the European course of Moldova and call upon other nongovernmental organizations to join together around the national idea of preparing the country for integration into the European family.
“The objective of the platform is to exchange information between members of the platform, their partners and the general public. Thus, the platform’s secretariat designed this project by which it asked for support for carrying out imperative activities, especially now that the information campaigns must cover all the country’s people, while civil society can and should become the promoter of the information process,” stated Lilia Snegureac.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák said that this year Moldova became one of the three states with which Slovakia will establish closer partnership relations. A series of projects are already being implemented in Moldova with the financial support of the Government of Slovakia. The number of such projects will gradually increase.
“We are glad that the Moldovan NGOs are willing to unite their forces to create a pro-European platform. Namely civil society has the task of facilitating dialogue between society and the government and of explaining the steps taken by the government and their results to the people. But it should also monitor and respect the fulfillment by the government of its obligations in the European integration process. We hope you will join the EU in the shortest period,” stated the Slovak official.
Slovakia became a member of the European Union ten years ago. Miroslav Lajčák said his country is ready to share the experience gained in the European integration process with other states.
