Veterinarians during two months will vaccinate gratis against rabies the dogs in all the households of the country. A number of 350,000 doses of vaccine were purchased for the purpose.
Head of the press service of the National Food Safety Agency Victor Tocan has told IPN that the vaccination will take place in October – November and the people are urged to allow the veterinarians to enter freely their homes and to help them during immunization. Another advice is not to offer recompense to veterinarians for the vaccination of their dogs.
Rabies is a viral disease transmitted from animals to humans that targets the central nervous system (brain and spinal marrow). It is commonly spread by a bite or scratch. There are an estimated 55,000 deaths from rabies each year worldwide.
According to the National Food Safety Agency, 29 cases of rabies in dogs were recorded in Moldova in the first nine months of this year.
