Customs Service head questioned as witness in case of Vlad Filat

The director of the Customs Service Tudor Balitski on October 19 was questioned by anticorruption prosecutors as a witness in the case in which ex-Premier Vlad Filat is accused of passive corruption and influence peddling, IPN reports.

In a news conference, anticorruption prosecutor Adriana Betisor said that Balitski is suspected of knowing circumstances related to the case of the former Prime Minister. In the depositions made by Ilan Shor, referring to the Liberal-Democratic heavyweight, there are circumstances that Tudor Balitski could explain.

Also today, Ilan Shor was summoned for additional questioning in the case of Vlad Filat.

On October 15, Parliament withdrew the immunity of Liberal-Democratic MP Vlad Filat by the votes of 79 MPs of 101, following a request made by the prosecutor general. The Liberal-Democratic heavyweight is accused of passive corruption and traffic of influence. After the Parliament hearing, Vlad Filat was escorted to the National Anticorruption Center, where he was placed under arrest for 72 hours. On October 18, the court extended the warrant for his arrest for 30 days.
