Circulation distance between capital’s public transport units to be increased
The capital mayoralty might increase up to 15 minutes the circulation distance between units of trolleybuses and buses. The initiative belongs to the interim mayor, Vasile Ursu, who announced on Monday, July31, during the mayoralty’s working meeting, that the local authorities are forced to make these restrictions due to reduced flow of passengers in summer.
According to Ursu, in summer, when the passenger flow is diminished, it is not economically justified to put on service the same number of trolleybuses and buses use them. The costs for maintaining the bus and trolleybus companies rise up to 150 million lei per year. „It is nothing wrong if the population will wait some extra 15-20 minutes,” Ursu believes.
The interim mayor did not exclude the fact that the number of buses might be reduced as well, the number of trolleybuses being already reduced by dozens of units.
According to data of the Public Transport Department, 220 trolleybuses and 103 buses circulate at the moment on the streets of the capital.
