The medical system of Chisinau municipality is in need of about €70 million for reconstruction and renovation. The Chisinau Health Division ordered a feasibility study for the municipal health system. The study was carried out by a consortium of three societies from Moldova, the Netherlands and Romania and cost 1 million lei, IPN reports.

The feasibility study was conducted during a year and was completed this autumn. ”The goal was to have an assessment of the situation in the health system so as to set the priorities for the next years, in the short, medium and long terms,” said the Health Division’s head Mihai Moldovanu.

The experts who carried out the study said the network of family doctors centers in Buiucani and Ciocana districts should be extended; the primary medicine should be orientated to the prevention medicine, while the ambulatory one – to treatment medicine. The study revealed the necessity of opening a Sugar Diabetes Center at the Hospital “Saint Archangel Mikhail” and a new cardiovascular surgery section at the Hospital “Saint Trinity”. An andrology center and a mammography center are also needed at the Maternity Hospital No. 2 in Chisinau.

The study also shows that new medical specialists should be trained and that the insured person’s card should be introduced to monitor the costs per patient. The weak points of the current health system are: old infrastructure; technologically outdated medical equipment; unused internal areas; inexistence of a municipal emergency system and of an integrated information system; old age of the medical personnel.

The works covered by the feasibility study cost about €70 million. It is projected that 98% of this sum will represent European funds, while 2% will be allocated from the budget of the Chisinau local administration. The reconstruction and renovation project would be implemented in three stages, until 2030.
