The funicular railway located on Calea Iesilor St of Chisinau may be restored within a public-private partnership. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said the investment contest for repairing the funicular may be opened this year, even if no financial resources were earmarked for the purpose, Info-Prim Neo reports. Deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu said that the project to reconstruct and restore the funicular railway and to lay out the adjoining area is the most achievable project in the list of public-private partnerships. “It is a recreational facility and there are potential partners that may become involved in restoring it. The project will be proposed in the January 31 meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council,” he stated. The funicular was put in commission in 1988. It connected the streets Calea Iesilor and Nicolae Costin. The construction of the funicular cost 7 million rubles. Several million lei is needed to repair it.
