As many as 260 workers of the Green Areas Management Association have been involved in the cleanup activities in Chisinau. The Association’s head Eliferii Haruta said the number of workers is too low given the areas of 3,600 hectares that they have to clean up.
Twelve people are cleaning up the Park “Valea Morilor”, which is 113 hectares in area. “The workers constitute not even 10% of the necessary cleanup personnel. We need at least 100 people there,” Eliferii Haruta said, adding that there were 2,400 cleanup workers in Chisinau in the 1980s.
In the context of the cleanup campaign, the head of the Public Amenities Division Petru Gontea reiterated that the companies are obliged to bring the areas adjoining their head offices in order. A number of 450 notices were sent to those who ignored this obligation. If the areas remain unclean, they will be fined.
