More than 60 Socialist, Communist, ex-Communist and Democratic MPs voted to introduce the questioning of the acting prosecutor general and the administration of the Security and Intelligence Service and the Ministry of the Interior in the agenda of the June 17 sitting. The Socialist group requested hearings on the unionist campaign “Sign for the union” that is carried out in different parts of the country. After the vote, Speaker Andrian Candu asked for a pause during which he was seen discussing with a number of MPs, IPN reports.
The Socialist MPs said this campaign is an attack on the statehood and independence of the Republic of Moldova and asked for information about the financing of this campaign and of unionist organizations.
Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu reminded the parliamentary alliance that they reached an agreement to never vote with the opposition. “The proposal of the Socialists forms part of the forthcoming election campaign. We have the ECHR decision saying that a political party can promote the reunification of the Romanian state, but must do it peacefully. Your tents, not the tens of young people who have the right to promote an idea are a hindrance. It’s regretful that members of the parliamentary alliance also voted in favor. I’m sure that the prosecutor will tell you the same,” he stated.
Socialist MP Vlad Batrancea said that if the authorities are not ready to provide the necessary information in today’s sitting, they accept to postpone the hearings until the next sitting.
Andrian Candu said the issue was included in the agenda of today’s sitting, but its examination will be put off if they do not have enough time to discuss it.
