The criminal case started over abuse of power when mortgaging areas of the National Clinical Hospital was sent to prosecutors on March 21, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the National Anticorruption Center, five persons are investigated as suspects in this case, including acting Health Minister Andrei Usatyi, the acting director of the National Clinical Hospital, the head of the Health Ministry’s Law Division, the notary who authenticated the mortgage contract, and the registrar of the Chisinau Local Cadastre Office who registered the contract.
The prosecutors are to pronounce on the proposals of the Center’s officers concerning the indictment, the suspension of the public servants from posts, the withdrawal of the notary’s license, and the sending of the case to court.
As many as 546 square meters of the National Clinical Hospital were mortgaged for four bank loans of €10 million and 97 million lei. The loans were taken out by companies with which the authorities initiated a public-private partnership.
