The former deputy head of the Briceni Tax Inspectorate will be brought to justice. This is accused of abusing his power by employing a scheme to embezzle public funds on the pretext of refunding VAT to particular legal entities, IPN reports.
Investigators determined that the culprit thought up the scheme and influenced inferiors to ensure the refund of VAT to the value of over 510,000 lei from the state budget to the company Labean Prime that was founded and is managed by persons close to the official of the Briceni Tax Inspectorate. The VAT was refunded based on apparent inspection documentation that included false data.
This way, the sum was illegally transferred from the state budget to the given company. The money was yet blocked and the perpetrators of the crime could not use it.
The ex-official of the Tax Inspectorate faces up to three years in jail and a fine of 32,500 to 57,500 lei, in both of the cases with ban on holding particular posts or performing particular activities for a period of up to five years.
