According to the mayor, the municipality has over 270 reservoirs for drinking and technical water, 20 tanks and 45 specialized vehicles for transporting water to the population. Also, over 200 water distribution points have been established, half of which are in kindergartens, 30 in medical institutions, and 75 in the capital’s sectors.

Ion Ceban also said that the municipality has 26 functional wells, managed by the City Hall and the Chisinau Apa-Canal enterprise, with a total flow of about 32 thousand cubic meters of water per day. To these are added the capacities of the Chisinau Mine, which currently provides about 5 thousand cubic meters of water per day, mainly used for technical needs.

The general mayor mentioned that the water reserves from the reservoir lakes of Novodnestrovsk and Dubasari are currently sufficient. At the same time, the municipality has prepared alternative solutions to ensure the continuity of the capital’s water supply in case of difficulties.

The head of Latvian diplomacy will meet with President Maia Sandu, with Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, as well as with Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popsoi.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit reaffirms the excellent relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Latvia, as well as the intense political dialogue between the two states. This reflects the common values and Latvia’s constant support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova and for the promotion of democratic reforms.

In 2025, CFM achieved sales revenues of 700.6 million lei, an increase from 635.1 million lei in the previous year. However, the expenses related to the activity exceeded the revenues, reaching 769.9 million lei.

The financial situation of the company has improved compared to the years 2023-2024. In 2023, CFM recorded losses of 143.9 million lei, and in 2024 the negative result reached 322.6 million lei. The only recent year in which the company reported a profit was 2022, with a positive result of 62.1 million lei.

At the end of last year, CFM had a share capital of over 3.2 billion lei, with the state fully owning the company. The net assets were valued at approximately 2.9 billion lei, and long-term debts exceeded 1.1 billion lei. The company had 3,816 employees, over 1,100 fewer than in 2023.

The financial indicators show a negative profitability of the company in 2025: -3.09% for equity and -9.89% for sales revenues. At the same time, the overall solvency rate was 2.76, and the current liquidity – 3.35, indicating the enterprise’s ability to cover its short-term obligations.

The document provides for the strengthening of national resilience, the development of military capabilities, investments in strategic infrastructure and cybersecurity, as well as the expansion of cooperation with external partners. In assessing the security environment, the project’s authors mention among the main threats to the Republic of Moldova the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and the risk of its extension to the country’s borders, the Russian military presence in the Transnistrian region, hybrid attacks, disinformation campaigns, and cyber attacks. Among the factors that can affect national security are also included the proliferation of weapons, climate change, and natural disasters.

The program also includes the modernization of military infrastructure, the development of an operational anti-aircraft defense system, equipping the National Army with equipment interoperable with that of partner states, and the reconstruction of the military camp in Bacioi.

Nikol Pashinyan posted on social networks a video recording in which he signs the government’s resignation request, a document subsequently sent to the President of Armenia.

According to the Prime Minister, after the commencement of the new Parliament’s mandate, the head of state is to appoint the Prime Minister candidate proposed by the parliamentary majority.

The resignation of the Government comes after the recent parliamentary elections, following which the party led by Pașinian, “Civil Contract”, obtained 49.7% of the votes. The pro-European formation thus secured its victory to continue governing.

The new composition of the Armenian Parliament, the IX legislature, began its activity on August 2, which triggered the constitutional procedure for the resignation of the Government.

The proportion of foreign students in the total university population has significantly increased in recent years, from 1.3% in 2010 to 10.2% in 2026. According to the IDIS “Viitorul” expert, attracting young people from other countries can contribute both to the financial consolidation of universities and to the improvement of education quality and the development of educational services export.

The majority of foreign students come from Romania – 56.4% of the total. This is followed by India, with 19%, Ukraine – 8.6%, Turkey – 6.9% and Israel – 6.7%.

Veaceslav Ionita asserts that the Republic of Moldova has several advantages in attracting international students, among which are the cultural and linguistic proximity to Romania, but also the possibility of developing training programs in Romanian for young people from other countries.

In the last two decades, the total number of students in the Republic of Moldova has decreased from about 128 thousand in 2006-2007 to 62,900 in 2025-2026. However, in the last two years, their number has increased by about 6,400, and approximately 20% of this increase was generated by the rise in the number of foreign students.

The CNSF evaluated the financial situation at the end of the first quarter and found that the banking sector maintains its resilience, under continuous risk monitoring conditions. The risk associated with excessive lending growth was considered moderate, after the volume of bank loans continued to grow at a rate superior to the evolution of the GDP. In this context, the National Bank of Moldova increased the rate of the countercyclical capital buffer to 2.5%, a level applicable from May 26.

The non-performing loan ratio in the banking sector stood at 4.3%, up 0.5 percentage points from the previous quarter, the increase being primarily driven by qualitative assessment criteria.

According to the CNSF, liquidity risks, sectorial concentration, and market risks have remained low, due to sufficient liquidity reserves, diversified structure of loan portfolios, and limited exposure to market fluctuations. Systemically important banks continue to meet capital and liquidity requirements.

In the non-banking lending sector, the risks have been assessed as moderately low. The loan portfolio of non-banking lending organizations and savings and loan associations has increased by 2.3%, mainly due to loans granted to legal entities, and the quality of the portfolios has remained relatively constant.

The National Committee for Financial Stability is chaired by the governor of the BNM and represents the cooperation mechanism between the institutions responsible for overseeing and maintaining financial stability.

SA Energocom specifies that the electricity needs of the Republic of Moldova are fully covered. However, during peak consumption hours, it may be necessary to purchase additional quantities from regional markets, where energy is, as a rule, more expensive.

In Romania, an energy alert has been instituted for 30 days, due to the reduction of electric power production, caused by the low flow of the Danube. Romanian authorities warn that the situation puts pressure on regional markets, may increase the need for imports, and can generate price fluctuations.

According to Energocom, 9,523 MWh of electrical energy were contracted for August 1st. Out of this volume, 33.05% comes from local and eligible renewable sources, 51.68% from bilateral import contracts, 13.85% from the Day-Ahead Market in Romania, through OPCOM and BRM, and 1.42% is produced by thermal power plants.

To alleviate pressure on the system and peak-time acquisition costs, consumers are encouraged to use washing machines, clothes dryers, electric boilers, and other appliances during the day, when energy consumption is lower.
