Glebus Sainciuc, a renowned painter, illustrator and mask maker, turns 93 today. On the occasion of his birthday, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca bid him health and inspiration, thanking him for his lifelong dedication to national art. The Mayor added that the artist’s works would become part of the nation’s golden heritage, Info-Prim Neo reports. The masks made by Glebus Sainciuc are his trademark. They represent not only the times in which the artist worked, but the evolution of the Basarabian society. He made masks after the faces of Nicolae Sulac, Grigore Vieru, Dumitru Matcovschi, Gheorghe Urschi, Anastasia Lazariuc, Gheorghe Mustea and many others. Glebus Sainciuc signed hundreds of works of various kinds, winning numerous awards and honorary titles. He debuted at the Luceafarul Theater, in the play “The curtains remain open”, in 1965. The “dynasty” Glebus Sainciuc, Valentina Rusu-Ciobanu and Lica Sainciuc remains a unique phenomenon in the culture and spirituality of Bessarabia. According to a Chisinau City Hall press release, the Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca will personally congratulate the artist today in the afternoon, July 19. Glebus Sainciuc is one of the 37 honorary citizens of Chisinau Municipality.
