The agreement on the formation of a majority coalition in the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) will be signed this evening, September 3, Liberal Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca announced. He said that the parties of the future coalition need yet time to discuss a number of proposals submitted this morning, IPN reports.
Dorin Chirtoaca said the rounds of negotiations between the councilors of the Liberal Party, the Electoral Bloc “European People’s Platform of Moldova – Iurie Leanca”, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Democratic Party were productive and the agreement is 99.9% ready. Its signing was set for 8pm. The meeting of the CMC will take place afterward.
The Socialist, Communist councilors and those of the Our Party expressed their dissatisfaction with the postponement of the Council’s meeting. Dorin Chirtoaca replied that if they have the quorum, they can convene the meeting, in accordance with the democratic norms. “It’s not use starting a meeting of the CMC for making populist statements only. It’s better to have an alliance formed and to work based on an administration program,” he stated.
As to the posts of deputy mayor, Dorin Chirtoaca said no candidates have been fielded. There is yet an agreement of principle and the deputy mayors could be designated in another CMC meeting, but not today.
