Alexandru Diordita St was to become a pedestrian area from May 1, but vehicles continue to move along it and to be parked there. Of the planned works, only the trees were trimmed. The acting chief architect of Chisinau Radu Blaj said the rest of the works will be executed over the next two-three weeks, IPN reports.
“Even if we put road signs there, the drivers continue to travel on this street and to park there,” Radu Blaj said in the ordinary meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials.
Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said it is a shame that the announced terms weren’t respected. “We should not make commitments if we do not have the ability to fulfill them. The economic entities should have been organized so that they opened terraces from May 1,” he stated, adding that zebra crossings should have been marked from the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral up to Grigore Vieru Blvd. as the people don’t know what pedestrian area is, but know what crosswalks are.
Movement and parking on Alexandru Diordita St has been banned since April 22. According to the Chisinau City Hall, the transformation of Alexandru Diordita St into a pedestrian area is aimed at revitalizing the historical center of the city by creating an attractive recreational area.
