24th Potters Fair to be held in Iurceni

Over 30 skilled potters from Romania, Italy and Moldova will meet at the International Potters’ Fair Iurceni-2012, the 24th edition. Ion Balteanu, head of the Moldovan Folk Craftsmen Union, has told Info-Prim Neo that Iurceni is an old potters’ haven. The Fair’s goal is to put on display the latest creations of the best national artisans, stimulating their economic growth, and popularizing pottery and continuing the artistic traditions of this ancient craft. “The fair will give the potters the possibility to prove their craftsmanship, modeling clay pots at the potter’s wheel. Each master has a personalized style, like writing. Each of them has something different when using colors, shapes, form”, said Ion Balteanu. The jury will award diplomas and monetary prizes to the most talented artists. The most prestigious award is the “Ion Arseni” special prize. The fair’s visitors will not only have the possibility to admire the process of pot making, but also purchase some of the folk-artist’s creations. A folk music concert will also take place on the fairgrounds. The visitors will have the opportunity to spend an autumn day in the beautiful surroundings of a scenic Moldovan village and talk to the potters.
