More than 1,500 persons – representatives of the municipality, the NGO sector and business entities, students and citizens of the capital city – took part in the cleanup event staged in Chisinau on March 16. According to the General Public Amenities Division, about 6,000 sacks of garbage were collected near the beds of the Byk River and other rivulets and also lakes, IPN reports.
Most of the volunteers, 1,150 in number, became involved in the cleaning of the Byk riverbed. About 400 persons took part in the cleanup of the rivulets Durlești and Holbocica and of the lake situated near the Șoseaua Muncești St. There were gathered about 90 trucks of waste. Similar activities were carried out near the rivulets Malina Mică and Țiganca, the lakes in “Valea Trandafirilor” Park and other places.
The March 16 event was held in connection with World Water Day. Representatives of the local public administration thanked the citizens who took part in the event in the March 18 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions.
The general spring cleanup is carried out between March 4 and April 26. Also, the General Public Amenities Division on March 30 will organize a tree planting event in concert with the public association “Parks of the Future”. About 10,000 trees are planned to be planted as part of the event. The general park cleanup was scheduled for April 13, while the general cleanup in yards of apartment buildings for April 20.
