The municipality of Chisinau hasn’t managed to repair the underground passage situated near Municipal Clinical Hospital No.1 in Botanica district by the end of 2018, as it planned. Answering the questions of reporters after the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services and divisions, acting mayor Ruslan Codreanu said the owners of the mall situated nearby, who expressed interest in performing the works under a public-private partnership, gave up, IPN reports.

Ruslan Codreanu noted the municipality drafted the project, estimated the costs and designed the passage, but the partners could not ensure continuity. This way the idea remains on paper until a new business entity that would execute the works is identified.

The costs associated with the repair of an unground passage were estimated at 9 million lei. The municipality is looking for private partners to implement such projects. Money only for maintaining underground passages was earmarked in the 2019 municipal budget.

In the municipality of Chisinau, there are 20 underground pedestrian passages. Twelve of them were leased out to companies. At the start of last year, the Chisinau City Hall announced the launch of works to repair eight underground passages. None of the projects was yet implemented.
