SA “Apã-Canal Chisinau” reminds the housing sector managers and consumers that measures should be taken to prevent the freezing of water mains and water meters by thermal insulation when the temperatures are low, IPN reports.

According to the water supplier, the consumers should ensure the protection and physical integrity of water meters and basements of blocks against frost, while the apartment building managers should thermally insulate the internal sewer and water pipes.

To avoid accidents and useless costs, the water branch pipes and meters should be insulated with special material and only water meter readings should be left open. Under the legislation, the consumers are obliged to carry out these works.

The supplier warns that if the given conditions are not met, it will bear no responsibility for the subsequent disconnection from the water supply services following the freezing of metering installations.
