Judoist Eugen Matveiciuc becomes world champion

Judoist Eugen Matveiciuc achieved marvelous success at the Cadets World Championships in Chile. He won the gold medal in the 81 kg category.

The 19 year old won five fights in Santiago. On his road to glory, he bested Brazil’s Nuciano Junior Santos, Armenia’s Mamikon Avetisyan, Canada’s Luka Khatelishvili and Tajikistan’s Dzhakhongir Madzhidov. In the final, he defeated Argentina’s Agustin Gil.

This year, Matveiciuc had already won two bronze medals – one at the European Cadets Championships and one at the European Youth Olympics Festival.
