Western analyst Vladimir Socor said the Constitutional Court (CC) could adopt a decision to extend the time limit for forming a parliamentary coalition that is to expire in several days. “The deadline expires in several days, but we know that in Chisinau the Constitutional Court can pass any judgement and I would not be surprised if this is done to gain several more days,” the expert stated in an interview for RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service that is quoted by IPN.
Speaking about the consultations between the MPs of the Bloc ACUM and those of the Party of Socialists, Vladimir Socor said ACUM considers any long-term coalition with the PSRM makes no sense as this is doomed to failure. “A coalition is one thing, but a common vote in Parliament to launch the de-oligarchization procedures proposed by the Bloc ACUM is another thing. I here fully agree with the Bloc ACUM. The Party of Socialists is to shows whether it supports the oligarchic system of Mister Plahotniuc or it wants the de-oligarchization”.
According to the pundit, these discussions do not favor the leader of the PDM Vlad Plahotniuc as this wants bilateral negotiations with the PSRM. Vlad Plahotniuc believes the Bloc ACUM will not accept a coalition with the Party of Socialists. “Even if Moscow suggests this, the Bloc ACUM will not form such a coalition especially after Dmitry Kozak indicated that Moscow would favor a combination between the Bloc ACUM and the Party of Socialists,” he stated.
In the same connection, Vladimir Socor noted the Bloc ACUM at the current stage is not ready to govern and it would be a risky adventure if ACUM assumes government alone. But it would be even worse if ACUM forms a coalition with the PSRM or with the PDM. The Bloc ACUM needs a break.
On June 4, the PSRM accepted the Bloc ACUM’s invitation to return to discussions on possible cooperation in Parliament. After two rounds of discussions, the PSRM said they cannot concede the post of Parliament Speaker. For its part, the Bloc ACUM noted they are ready to vote in the Socialists’ candidate for Speaker, but only after the package of anti-oligarchic laws is adopted. The PDM noted the invitation to discussions issued to the PSRM is still valid.
