Anatol Șalaru: If an alliance between ACUM and PSRM is formed, we will mount protests

The president of the National Unity Party Anatol Șalaru said that if an alliance between the Bloc ACUM and the Party of Socialists is formed and the police and other state institutions will be under the influence of Russia, they will take to the streets. He noted such a risk exists given that officials from the Russian Federation, the EU and the U.S. are expected to come to Chesnais next week. Acceding to him, these come to influence the formation of a majority between ACUM and the PSRM, IPN reports.

Anatol Șalaru noted the formation of a coalition in Chisinau depends on an eventual agreement between Germany and the Russian Federation, which would plead for an alliance between ACUM and the PSRM. Not accidentally, the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Kozak, European Commissioner Johannes Khan and an American official come to Chisinau next week. “There are rumors and if these come true, the Bloc ACUM will prepare its death and this will be betrayal as the PSRM would control the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Security and Intelligence Service, the Ministry of the Interior and other areas,” the politician stated in the program “Red button” on the public TV channel Moldova 1.

He noted such an alliance will throw Moldova 20 years back and the supporters of their party in such a case will mount protests.

“Democratic Action” Party president Mihai Godea said things on the Moldovan political arena can develop in any direction. This period of lull shows they work behind the scenes to form a parliamentary majority. “I think intense discussions, negotiations are held even if apparently nothing happens in the public sphere,” he stated.

According to Godea, the goal of the discussions between the Bloc ACUM and the Party of Socialists was to discredit the two parties that form part of the bloc and he does not understand why ACUM took such a step. “They should have probably remained faithful to the commitment not to negotiate with the PSRM, but the post-electoral situation is different from the pre-electoral stakes and any political player should play depending on the real situation. I don’t believe in an alliance between the Socialists and ACUM,” he stated, adding a ruling alliance will be ultimately formed, but snap elections cannot be excluded either.

Victor Juc, director of the Institute of Legal, Political and Sociological Research, said it is good when opinions are exchanged outside video cameras. They probably adopt positions now behind the scenes given that there are two factors of influence – the internal one and the foreign one. The citizens understand that the snap elections will not change things much. Besides, the foreign officials come to Chisinau for a purpose. “To my mind, if nothing happens, the President on June 10 should go to the Constitutional Court to clarify if there are circumstances for announcing snap elections,” stated Juc.
