If such reports hadn’t existed, the thirst of those who hold power and unlimited resources for rigging the elections by different methods would have grown considerably, WatchDog expert Valeriu Pașa stated, referring to CEC member Iurie Ciocan’s criticism of the most recent report by Promo-LEX Association, who called it interference in the electoral process and inappropriate influencing of voters, IPN reports.
“I know that they insert in reports not everything they see, but only things that can be proven with enough details, including in the eventuality of a trial. I think these reports are rather mild, but I know that they are so namely because their authors document very strictly what they introduce in the report. The reality is much harsher,” Valeriu Pașa stated in the program “Expertise hour” on Jurnal TV channel.
Journalist Arcadie Gherasim said in a country that considers itself faithful to the democratic values, such reactions as that of the CEC member Iurie Ciocan should not exist. Promo-LEX does the work of many state institutions that do not do their job and do not examine reported cases. The Central Election Commission should be bothered by the fact that some of the electoral contenders break the law and, if this thing is proven, measures should be taken to punish these violations. “Mister Ciocan considers such monitoring should not take place. Then, why doesn’t he suggest liquating also the independent press that informs the citizens about such monitoring?” he asked.
Jurist Pavel Midrigan, former CEC member, noted more organizations like Promo-LEX should exist and this would be beneficial to the electoral process. The Association proved its authority in time. “We are coming closer to a period of turbulence and the competent bodies do not even want to notice the rather serious committed violations that can cast doubt on the legitimacy of the legislative body that will be elected. Promo-LEX does not only invoke those violations, but also formulates solutions,” stated the jurist.
In a meeting of the CEC earlier, Iurie Ciocan said the monitoring reports compiled by Promo-LEX represent interference in the electoral process and inappropriate influencing of voters and the election organization environment in general.
The second monitoring report presented by the observation mission of Promo-LEX on January 10 points to increased activism among already registered electoral competitors or potential competitors before the parliamentary elections held based on the mixed electoral system. In the monitored period, December 10 – January 8, there were staged about 280 events, approximately 100 of which can be described as offering of presents in the electoral period.
