More than 15,000 hectares of corn, wheat, soybean and rape fields, orchards and vineyards were damaged as a result of the torrential rain with hail that fell in Moldova the past few weeks, head of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies Mihail Harabagiu stated in a meeting of the emergencies commission, IPN reports.
According to Mihail Harabagiu, the farmers in a number of districts, such as Briceni, Cahul, Călărași, Dondușeni, Leova, Soroca and ATU Găgăuzia, suffered losses.
Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Nicolae Ciubuc said that over 5,000 anti-hail rockets were launched in the period. Until June 15, they will receive a consignment of another 2,000 anti-hail rockets. To prevent the consequences of rain with haul, some of the farmers use protection nets, especially in case of orchards.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip requested Minister Ciubuc to order the constitution of a commission that would exactly determine the extent of the damage.
State Road Administration chief Gheorghe Curmei said the rain affected 173 road sections in a number of settlements. The specialized services intervened to clear these of mud. About 20 million lei has been spent so far on such works.
In the meeting, it was suggested allocating over 1 million lei to the districts of Drochia, Fălești and Strășeni for alleviating the consequences of the heavy rainfalls.
