More than 4,000 operations for cataract were financed last year with money from the mandatory health insurance funds, over 40 million lei being allocated for the purpose. The average cost of a treated case is of almost 10,000 lei, including costs for consumables, the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) has said, being quoted by IPN.
In 2019, 5,500 cataract surgeries will be financed from these funds. The beneficiaries will be medically insured persons with indications and those who were put on the waiting list.
Last year, the CNAM signed contracts for the provision of such services with 14 institutions, by nine more than a year before.
