Monica Babuc: Education Code should be supplemented with new provisions

The Education Code that was thought up several years ago should be supplemented with provisions that would solve the problems faced by the education system of the Republic of Moldova, Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc stated in the talk show “Issue of the day” on Canal 2 TV channel, IPN reports.

According to the minister, a number of provisions of the Code weren’t implemented because there weren’t the necessary conditions or absolutely necessary provisions are absent. The Education Code should be supplemented so as to deal with the shortage of over 2,000 teachers in the system.

The minister noted that even the rise in the allowance for young specialists, which was adopted recently by the Government, from 45,000 to 120,000 lei for graduates of teacher-training universities, is not sufficient to attract new staff to the system. That’s why Monica Babuc said other actions are also prepared to support the young people, such as the remuneration of mentoring services provided by experienced teachers to young specialists.

“We also think about the initiation of campaigns to promote the many positive models existing in the system so as to increase the attractiveness of this profession,” said the minister.

Monica Babuc also said the higher education establishments this year were graduated by over 800 young people. Of these, about 600 were assigned to jobs by the authorities, but only 123 of these announced their readiness to start work in August. “We are to be now informed if these 123 young people remained at the workplace or left or more of those 600 joined in,” she stated.
