The number of students who caught measles during a week decreased from 84 to three. According to the data collected from local education divisions, the number of unvaccinated children has also declined.
In a response to an inquiry made by IPN, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research says 7,349 students were not admitted to education institutions because of measles on September 7. Of these, 5,421 students weren’t vaccinated. The others were either infected with measles or were recently vaccinated. On September 14, the number of students who weren’t admitted because of measles fell to 5,664, while the number of those who weren’t immunized against measles stood at over 2,600.
A number of 498 students with contraindications to vaccination are allowed to attend school.
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Research said discussions are held with each family and each case is monitored so that the education institutions remain safe places for all the children.
