A hunter aged 48 was shot dead during pheasant hunting near Nicolaevca village of Sangerei district in the morning of January 13. Head of the General Public Security Division of the General Police Inspectorate Marin Maxian told a news conference that the police were alerted at about 10:40am, IPN reports.
According to preliminary reports, the four persons involved in the hunting decided to go home at about 10:25am. One of them got onto the car. When another hunter wanted to join him, the belt of the hunter’s gun got hanged onto a part of the vehicle and the gun was jerked from his hand. When falling, the gun fired and injured the hunter from the car. The ambulance doctors who arrived at the scene could do nothing to save him.
Marin Maxian said the preliminary examination performed at the scene confirmed that the shot was fired from a short distance. A legal examination is to be carried out. A criminal case was started over killing out of imprudence. The culprit faces up to three years in jail. The police arrested one of the hunters, who is aged 57.
Marin Maxian noted that all the hunters had experience and held the guns legally.
