The former president of the Constitutional Court Victor Pușcaș said he considers the Venice Commission will reach the conclusion that the Parliament and the Government of Molodva are legitimate. If, from political viewpoint, the attitude of other governments and Presidents is important for Moldova, from legal viewpoint it is the position of the Venice Commission that matters, IPN reports.
Victor Pușcaș noted that even if some of the political players in Moldova believe the Venice Commission’s opinion is recommendatory in character , Moldova should pay attention to the documents issued by this organization if it wants to continue on the European road. “I’m sure the Venice Commission will conclude that the Parliament and the Government are legitimate. The February 24 elections were held absolutely legally and respected the general rules. These elections were recognized constitutionally in the country and abroad,” the ex-CC president stated in the program “Important” on NTV Moldova channel, noting that as a number of parties formed a majority, the Constitutional Court should welcome this.
Socialist MP Vasile Bolea said Parliament adopted a decision stipulating that the bodies of the power will request such international organizations as the Venice Commission, the European Court of Human Rights, the Council of Europe and the UN Security Council to provide assessments.
The MP noted there is legitimate power with three poles in Moldova: the Government, Parliament and Presidential Office. Both the people and the international community support the newly installed legitimate government. “I hope the Democratic Party will concede the power without resorting to violence,” stated Vasile Bolea.
Former Deputy Prime Minister Victor Stepaniuc said the new government is recognized by the main geopolitical partners – the EU, the U.S. and Russia. In time, the Constitutional Court issued a number of decisions that disadvantaged someone. In this regard, the current CC is politically biased.
Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland requested the Venice Commission to deliver an urgent opinion on the latest decisions of the Moldovan Constitutional Court, in particular the one to dissolve Parliament
