The Dignity and Truth (DA) Party is ready to support the Socialists’ nominee for Parliament Speaker, but on certain conditions. In particular, every Socialist MP will have to sign a declaration that he or she will in turn vote for an ACUM Cabinet headed by Maia Sandu. Also, PSRM lawmakers will have to promise that that they will endorse ACUM’s “anti-oligarchic” legislative package and President Igor Dodon that he will sign it into law. This was announced by DA leader Andrei Năstase, after the party’s governing body convened today.
Andrei Năstase told a press conference that “DA conditionally agrees to vote for a Speaker proposed by PSRM that is honest and uninvolved in corrupt schemes and immoral acts, and only after the above-mentioned conditions are fulfilled”.
“Let it be known that our party can not vote for any candidate proposed by the Party of Socialists, especially a person with integrity issues, involved in corruption schemes and immoral acts”, underlined Năstase.
Further conditions include that at the next Parliament sitting the Socialist group has to support a declaration that acknowledges the “captivity of state institutions” and to fix the date of local elections. Among the decisions that have to be passed is the sacking of the directors of the National Anticorruption Center and the Security and Intelligence Service, and of the Prosecutor General.
The failure to accept these conditions, maintains Năstase, will represent a “betrayal” of the people who voted for PSRM. He added that the failure to invest a “functional Government, established by a legitimate Parliament”, coupled with “the imminence of snap elections” is a recipe for “an even greater chaos” socially and economically.
Yesterday evening, PAS party, the other component of the political bloc ACUM, announced it would support a Socialist nominee for Speaker if the bloc is subsequently allowed to form a Government and promote its “anti-oligarchic” legislation. Today the Socialists said they will convene their National Council on Friday to decide on the next steps.
