The leaders of the political bloc ACUM have repeated their invitation for the Party of Socialists to sit at the negotiating table, tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. or “at any time that they find convenient”. ACUM’s goal is to secure “the PSRM’s commitment to join a fight against the oligarchic regime and for the establishment of the rule of law in Moldova”, the bloc’s co-presidents told a press conference.
“The Democratic Party is seeking to install the oligarch (Vlad Plahotniuc) in a public office in an attempt to consolidate this regime for many years to come. We the bloc ACUM cannot let this happen and we will do whatever it takes to free our country and prevent the consolidation of an anti-citizen regime”, stated Maia Sandu, ACUM/PAS.
Earlier today the bloc had meetings with Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Enlargement, and Bradley Freden, the US Department of State’s officer in charge of East European affairs. According to Maia Sandu, the discussions focused on ACUM’s principles such as ensuring democratic standards, observance of Council of Europe and Venice Commission recommendations, respect for human rights, the rule of law and freedom of the media, the fight against corruption, de-politicization of the justice system, and others.
“ACUM is the most fit to form a Government that puts these principles into practice to meet the expectations of the people and of the development partners”, said Maia Sandu.
ACUM/DA co-president Andrei Năstase said Johannes Hahn and Bradley Freden were informed about the bloc’s determination to have a functional Parliament. “We explained in detail the causes of the legislative blockage artificially created by Plahotniuc and Dodon”.
“After the 7 April 2009 coup, whose final beneficiary was Plahotniuc, the PDM leader is preparing another coup that will make his usurpation of power complete”, stated Năstase. He added that a potential PDM-PSRM coalition “would not only be pro-Russian, but also utterly anti-popular”.
