MEP: For EaP to expand, at least one country should come closer to EU and this is Moldova

For the Eastern Partnership to expand, at least one country should come very close to the European Union at the moment and this is Moldova, stated MEP Norica Nicolai. According to her, she has reservations as to the fact that Ukraine could come closer to the EU. The MEP developed the issue in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

“I don’t think the Russian presence could be removed from this country in the nearest future and Ukraine will be able to cover the European road at an accelerated pace. But the Republic of Moldova has this chance and we should thus stimulate it,” stated Norica Nicolai.

She noted a parliamentary majority should be formed in the Republic of Moldova as soon as possible. When the political parties say they are pro-European, go towards the EU bodies and hold European recitals, but cannot come to terms at internal level, this is not good. “Those parties that stated their support for the EU and do not want now to form a European Government are not European at all. The country needs a Government,” said the MEP, underlining she believes Moldova’s future is in the EU.

Journalist Nicolae Negru stated the EU should show a perspective to the Republic of Moldova and should say in how many years and in what conditions the country can join the European community. In such conditions, things in Chisinau will be addressed in a different way. “We have this geopolitical division in our country and I think the people who look at the East can be persuaded that it is better in the West,” he noted.
