Liberals lay flowers at Commemorative Stone in central square of Chisinau

Representatives of the Liberal Party on May 16 laid flowers at the Commemorative Stone in the Great National Assembly Square, commemorating thus the 207th anniversary of the signing of the Russian-Turkish treaty of 1812 as a result of which a part of the territory of historical Moldova, which was later called Bessarabia, was annexed to the Tsarist Empire. The Liberals said that this way they want to transmit the message that they do not forget and continue to struggle for justice and for correcting what happened 207 years ago as this is the main cause for all the hardships experienced today, IPN reports.

“If that Russian-Turkish treaty hasn’t been signed then and we wouldn’t have been separated on May 16, 1812, if that separation hadn’t been reaffirmed by Hitler and Stalin through the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, respectively the occupation of June 28, 1940, today we would have been part of the civilized world, the European world and we would have had prosperity and the rule of law, justice and all the things for which we struggle now and no longer understand what world we live in,” said the president of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoacă.

The ex-mayor of Chisinau also said few of the politicians who formed part of the government in time really wanted changes, while those who were in a majority used the old mentality of the people who are unable to make a correct choice.

“Today the Liberal Party came to commemorate the 207 years of Tsarist occupation that still lasts as we have the Russian army on the left side of the Nistru. The Russian Federation, the Soviet Union had never ignored this piece of land situated between the Prut and the Nistru, which was part of Romania. This has always been an obstacle to our development, to better living conditions and decent life,” stated ex-Liberal MP Corina Fusu.

She noted the Tsarist system, especially the Soviet system, applied real genocide on this land through gulags, arrests, executions, etc. and this happens today as well, but in a deferent form, through manipulation, hybrid war, political parties and trough the President of the Republic of Moldova, who serves Russia.

On May 16, 1812, the Russian Empire and the Ottoman Empire signed in Bucharest the Peace Treaty as a result of which a part of the territory of historical Moldova, which was later called Bessarabia, was annexed to the Tsarist Empire. In 1940, to avoid the war, the Romanian administration and army withdrew from Bessarabia, the territory  being integrated into the former USSR. Another part of the political class and the population of Moldova consider the years 1812 and 1940 were liberation years.
