Iurie Leancă says in what conditions EU macro-financial assistance can be resumed

The leader of the European People’s Party of Moldova Iurie Leancă said the European Union will not discuss the resumption of its macro-financial assistance with Moldova until a parliamentary majority and a Government aren’t formed and a government program is not announced. Also, no one will discuss with Moldova until particular steps are not taken to show seriousness in the fulfillment of the priorities that will be defined in the government program, IPN reports.

Asked if the resumption of financing is possible this year, the former Prime Minister said everything is possible, but it depends on how things to form the parliamentary majority and to install the new Government, with credible people in posts, develop.

“If, for example, the posts of minister of foreign affairs, defense and education are held by representatives of the Socialists, I’m sure that no one will want to discuss with us on principle. In Bucharest, they will also not discuss with a minister of education who will want to insert the phrases “Moldovan language” and “history of Moldova,” Iurie Leancă stated in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel.

He noted there is no risk that the visa-free regime between Moldova and the EU will be abolished. “I read the European Commission’s report on Moldova and on other countries that benefit from this regime and ascertained that our problems are not different or more serious than those faced by the other states. (...) As far as I know and given this report, there is no imminent danger,” stated the ex-PM.

As to the theft of the US$ 1 billion, Iurie Leancă said the recovery of the money should be addressed in the discussions on the creation of a pro-Western majority.
