NOW to present report on electoral frauds to Constitutional Court

Representatives of the electoral bloc NOW Platform DA and PAS said the February 24 parliamentary elections were neither free nor fair. They will present a report on the committed electoral frauds to the Constitutional Court and will demand to invalidate the elections in single-member constituencies No. 47 and No. 48 (intended for the Transnistrian region), in constituencies No. 17 and No. 18 (Nisporeni and Orhei) and also No. 4 (Râșcani), where the Central Election Commission decided to remove the NOW candidate from the race one day before the election day, IPN reports.

Sergiu Litvinenko, a member of the National Standing Bureau of the Party “Action and Solidarity”, said the elections can be considered free and fair when each person is able to vote freely. However, in the recent elections hundreds of thousands of people could not vote because they had the passports expired. The Moldovan citizens outside the country could not vote with the identity card and polling stations weren’t established in many cities where Moldovans registered according to the CEC procedures.

Among the frauds, NOW mentioned the replacement of the electoral system, incorrect formation of single-member constituencies, harassment of the opposition throughout the electoral period, modification of the rules of the game during the game, initiation of a referendum without legal effects simultaneously with the parliamentary elections, amendment of the law to allow campaigning on the eve and on the election day on the last 100 meters and bringing of people from the Transnistrian region to vote in an organized way.

Sergiu Litvinenko noted that no election contestant has been penalized for offering electoral presents and three parties that entered Parliament didn’t report to the CEC money spent in the election campaign.

President of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Andrei Năstase, co-president of the electoral bloc NOW DA PAS, said Moldova had been under siege during the past few years, during the election campaign and on the election day. “The institutions that were to supervise the proper conduct of elections yielded the state to mafia organizations that unrestrictedly committed this massive fraud. These election were neither free nor fair,” said the politician.

According to Andrei Năstase, in conditions of normality, the election results would have been different. “Annul the votes in the constituencies intended form Transnistria, for Plahotniuc and Shor as those from Transnistria wouldn’t have been interested in voting if they hadn’t been corrupted. Double the number of votes in the diaspora and eliminate the new mixed system and the situation would be different. You will see that the bloc NOW overwhelmingly won the elections. Without frauds, Plahotniuc and Shor wouldn’t have entered Parliament,” he stated.

Four political entities and three independent candidates entered Parliament after the February 24 legislative elections. The PSRM won 35 seats of MP, the Democratic Party – 30 seats, the electoral bloc NOW – 26 seats and the Shor Party – seven seats.
