PSRM: Legitimacy of upcoming elections is increasingly questioned

The Party of Socialists (PSRM) said an increasing number of questions have appeared as to the legitimacy of the February 24 parliamentary elections. In a news conference held on the last week of the election campaign, representatives of the PSRM said the voters are corrupted intensely by some of the election contestants, IPN reports.

The PSRM’s jurist Fadei Nagacevski said that even if the Republic of Moldova has an Election Code, the rules of the game are not respected by the election runners. The administrative resources are massively used by the ruling party and the voters are corrupted by being offered electoral presents banned by law. The PSRM is attacked with false accusations concerning illegal financing by contestants.

The jurist said that for some of the localities in northern Moldova, where the PSRM has many supporters, the government prepares attempts to remove some of the contenders in particular single-member constituencies so as to diminish the number of seats that would be obtained by the party. “If until now we  wondered who would win the elections, we now doubt that these elections will be validated and will be recognized by the international community,” stated Fadei Nagacevski.

MP Vlad Batrîncea said the Shor Party daily corrupts the voters and, regrettably, the law enforcement agencies pretend not to be seeing this. As to the relocation of the polling places for the voters from the Transnistrian region, the MP said this is nothing else but an attempt to reduce the number of people who would vote. “A number of questions appear as to the legitimacy of the upcoming elections,” he stated.

According to municipal councilor Ion Ceban, the PSRM’s secretary for ideology, they received a number of signals about the abusive use of administrative resources by the government at state institutions to exert pressure on the people. The mayors intimidate the people, while the institution heads – the inferiors. Pressure is also exerted on business entities so that these campaign in favor of the PDM. Ion Ceban called on the PDM not to terrorize the people and not to threaten them they will remain without jobs if they do not vote the Democrats.
