Lawyer Cristin Chiriac calls on the citizens to show more civic engagement and to report acts of corruption and frauds committed by politicians, functionaries and their accomplices to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO). To help them, the lawyer will offer them a model of application to the prosecutor general.

In a news conference at IPN, Cristin Chiriac said the form can be downloaded from the blog www.avocatulchiriaccristin.com or from his Facebook page. The application should be filled out with the person’s personal data and with details about the identified violation. After the application is completed, it must be printed in two copies and submitted to the Chancellery of the Prosecutor General’s Office or can be sent by recommended letter.

Cristin Chiriac said all the citizens have the right to file a complaint to the country’s bodies and this model will facilitate the realization of this right. Such a model of complaint was needed because most of the government in time didn’t fulfill the promises made to the people and the officials used their posts to steal public funds and thus acted to the detriment of the population’s interest. 

The stealing of the US$ 1 billion and other violations of the Constitution are relevant, stated the lawyer. “The events of the last few years related to the disappearance of the US$ 1 billion, the violation of the Constitution’s provisions by the government and other stratagems.... No measures were taken when the disappearance became known and the case wasn’t investigated and no legal action was taken. The people were made to return the stolen funds. Among other cases, I can mention the appointment by managers of functionaries to work in their interests, cases of appropriation of funds from “Moldtelecom”, the case of “Metal Feros”, higher natural gas and electric power tariffs,” stated Cristin Chiriac.

The lawyer  noted the prosecutor general is obliged to investigate the reported cases and to provide an answer. If an inquiry is not opened, the citizens, with the assistance of a lawyer, can challenge the prosecutor’s decision in court. In this connection, Cristin Chiriac called on all the lawyers to offer the people free legal advice when abuses committed by politicians are reported so as to help the citizens make themselves heard.
