Sergiu Mocanu explains why his party will not take compete in single-member constituencies

The leader of the Political Party “Antimafie Movement” Sergiu Mocanu said the party he represents will not take part in the upcoming parliamentary elections in single-member constituencies because it does not recognize the mixed electoral system. According to him, the party would have boycotted these elections if all the parties had undertaken to make a common front, IPN reports.

Sergiu Mocanu said his party will partially boycott the elections by taking part only in the national constituency. “We, the Movement Antimafie, will partially boycott this campaign as we didn’t find boycott partners given that everyone greedily wants to take part in the election campaign and win a seat in the single-member constituency,” the politician stated in the talk show “Candidate” on TVC21 channel.

He admitted that they will take part in the campaign in order to benefit from electoral publicity through which they can communicate the party’s message. “In the current election campaign, we will take part with a list of candidates only for that part of Parliament that is chosen based on party lists, as under the proportional representation system until now,” stated Sergiu Mocanu.

According to him, Moldova since 1994 has been more or less stable namely because it had one constituency and the vote was proportional. “As we divided the Republic of Moldova into constituencies, we caused a big problem that will have rather serious consequences for the proper functioning of the state,” noted the politician.
