Fight corruption and we commit ourselves to do more for Moldova, U.S. official

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell encourages continuing the efforts to fight corruption in the Republic of Moldova. “Fight corruption and we commit ourselves to do more for Moldova,” Wess Mitchell stated in a meeting with Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, who is paying a visit to the United States, IPN reports.

According to the legislature’s press service, the interlocutors discussed the internal situation in the country, regional situation and security challenges and the solutions promoted by the Moldovan authorities. They also conferred on the developments in the trilateral parliamentary cooperation between Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine and on the objective to create a Strategic Analysis Center.

The sides underlined the importance of holding the parliamentary elections of 2019 in accordance with the international democratic standards and principles.

The Parliament’s press service noted Speaker Andrian Candu is making the visit to the U.S. as the vice president of the Democratic Party. The travel expenses are not covered with public funds.
