President Igor Dodon on April 25 had a meeting with the leader of the Transnistrian region Vadim Krasnoselski in Bender. In the discussions, President Dodon underlined the necessity of making increased effort to really ensure the free movement of people between the two sides of the Nistru River. Igor Dodon said they also discussed the situation of the mixed peacekeeping forces on the Nistru as a guarantee for the people’s peace and security, which is an important constitutive element of the political dialogue, according to him, IPN reports.
“I expressed the common support for all the participants in the mixed peacekeeping operation in the Security Zone and gratitude to the Russian Federation for the activity of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, for the efficient and continuous functioning of the peacekeeping mission, for the efforts made to keep peace on the Nistru. In this connection, there was stressed the necessity of implementing measures aimed at normalizing the functioning of the entire delegation of the Russian Federation,“ President Dodon wrote in his Facebook page.
He noted that he and Vadim Krasnoselski stated their opposition to an eventual reformation of the peacekeeping operation on the Nistru proposed by international players, without taking into account the necessity of achieving a broad political settlement of the Transnistrian dispute, only by peaceful methods. “I reiterated the common position according to which the activity of the Moldovan-Ukrainian customs posts set up on the Transnistrian segment of the border should not negatively affect the residents and business entities of the Transnistrian region,” wrote Igor Dodon.
He also said that in the meeting they expressed the unanimous conviction that a bilateral dialogue is needed at high level to organize complex functioning for the resolution of the problems faced now in the peacekeeping, socioeconomic, humanitarian and other spheres.
