Alexandr Roshko, the candidate for mayor of Chisinau of the Party “Our Home – Moldova” who is under No. 3 on the ballot, said he should be voted because he wasn’t involved in corruption schemes and no one can say that he is the candidate of an oligarch. All his life he lived in Chisinau and knows the problems of the people. Chisinau faces a lot of problems and, for these to be solved, the administration of the capital city should be changed. The offers of four registered electoral contenders were presented in the public debate “I ask you to elect me mayor because...” staged by IPN News Agency.
Alexandr Roshko said the Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc engaged a number of own candidates in the race, including Socialist candidate Ion Ceban and independent candidate Silvia Radu, and also Liberal candidate Valeriu Munteanu. He called on the residents of Chisinau municipality not to vote the candidates associated with Vlad Plahotniuc. He noted his electoral program is simple and easy to be implemented. He will not allow the public institutions to be privatized. He will stop the felling of trees to free place for constructions, will adopt a new urban development plan and will solve the problem of stray animals in the city, and these things can be done over a year, according to him.
“The authorities are trying to distract the people’s attention from the really important problems, such as high prices, high tariffs and lack of jobs. The people are tired of dishonest politicians who do everything to get as much money from the people as possible. Chisinau is strangled by a lot of problems. I should be voted mayor because I always struggled for the human rights, was never involved in corruption schemes and didn’t betray the ideals of society,” stated the candidate.
When asked by the Liberal candidate Valeriu Munteanu how he assesses his chances of winning in Chisinau after he polled no vote when running in the mayoral elections in Ochiul Ros village of Anenii Noi district, Alexandr Roshko said his participation in those elections was rather a test to see how correct justice in Moldova is.
Replying to the candidate of the Party “Democracy at Home” Vasile Costiuc’s affirmations about the anti-European and anti-Romania messages disseminated by the party that this represents, Alexandr Roshko said he does not intend to resort to geopolitics in the election campaign as there are many other problems in Chisinau that should be dealt with. After these are solved, discussions could be held about the European Union, the Eurasian Union and other geopolitical subjects.
The candidate of the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase invited Alexandr Roshko, who presents himself as a politician of the left, to promote the electoral program of the PPPDA among the sympathizers of his party because his program contains common objective that the candidate of the Party “Our Home – Moldova” will be unable to achieve because he will obtain a low score in the mayoral elections in Chisinau, as Nastase anticipates.
The standing expert of IPN’s project Igor Botan, executive director of the Association for Participatory Democracy (ADEPT), said the political component for candidate Alexandr Roshko is the most important one in the current elections, while the administrative component ranks second. The candidate argues he became involved in the municipal elections in order to get a rostrum from where to speak about all the injustices faced by him as a political activist and by the party he represents, explaining that Moldova is a captured state ruled by a political grouping. The candidate urges to stop the negative developments in Chisinau and to invite foreign experts who can contribute to the development of the city with their expertise.
