The Transnistrian subject should be a top issue on Moldova’s agenda as it is of national interest. The Transnistrian conflict is also a conflict of international law because the sides are two states – the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation – and Moldova’s right to territorial integrity was violated, Dinu Plangau, the representative of the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”, said in the public debate ”Request to withdraw Russian troops from Moldova’s territory: legality, advantages, risks and dangers” that was organized by IPN News Agency.
According to Plangau, this conflict was transformed from an armed one into a conflict of economic interests and different political leaders from Chisinau, through the agency of institutions from both sides of the Nistru, finance separatism, including through fraudulent schemes. The request to withdraw the Russian troops will remain on paper only as the facts show something else and the intention to resolve this conflict is actually false.
“On the territory that is not controlled by the Republic of Moldova, there are over 400,000 citizens, 70% of whom are citizens of the Republic of Moldova, whose rights are violated. We should deal with the security of these citizens so that their basic rights are not violated,” stated Dinu Plangau.
He considers that the Transnistrian conflict should be settled by peaceful ways only and this will be possible only by increasing the living standards in the Republic of Moldova, on the territory controlled by the constitutional authorities, by creating functional institutions that would have a common viewpoint on the Transnistrian region and by preparing a document with solutions that can be put on the agenda of the geopolitical powers at an eventual summit on regional security.
“When it is about energy and national security, we should find solutions in the national interests,” said the representative of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”. He noted that their party wants the Russian troops to be withdrawn from Moldova’s territory so that the national security, including the financial one, could be ensured.
The public debate ”Request to withdraw Russian troops from Moldova’s territory: legality, advantages, risks and dangers” was the 76th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are staged with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation of Germany.
