The struggle for the post of President must not be a goal in itself. At the same time, not the concrete figure of the candidate for President is important, but rather the activity to join the political forces that will provide this candidate, considers Viorel Cibotaru, a member of the Political Bureau and of the National Political Council of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova. In the public debate “Common candidate of the right in the presidential elections: necessity and possibility, advantages and disadvantages”, which is the 57th installment of the series “Developing political culture by public debates”, this said that the future Head of State must be a person able to manage all the crisis situations faced by the country.
According to Viorel Cibotaru, it does not matter if the candidate for President comes from the political sphere or from the academic one. It is important for this not to be the representative of oligarchy. The future Head of State must be a person of integrity, who will be a patriot and a professional.
According to the representative of the Liberal Democratic Party, when the left already has a candidate, the civil society should be shown an alternative of this candidate.
“Not the concrete figure of the candidate for President who can gain the massive support of the political forces on a broad segment is important, but rather the activity to join the political forces that will provide this candidate because we have a unique situation. On the one hand, we have some rules that are not yet clear. On the other hand, we have the task of destroying a captured state system,” stated Viorel Cibotaru.
He also said that figures who will state the desideratum of becoming Head of State must appear and these later should look for support in all the segments of society, including inside political parties.
In another development, Viorel Cibotaru said the political sphere is incorrectly influenced: raider attacks are staged on parties, while the will expressed by the people in free elections is distorted. The people’s will is not represented, while the country’s European course is underrepresented in the current government.
The public debate “Common candidate of the right in the presidential elections: necessity and possibility, advantages and disadvantages” is the 57th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are organized with the assistance of the German Foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
