Approximately 60% of the measures stipulated in the priority reform action roadmap for implementing the EU-Moldova Association Agreement were already carried out and for the government it is very important for this roadmap to be fully put into practice, Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu said in the public debate “Europeanism of Moldovan government and society: responsibilities, affinities and dissimilarities in different periods of pro-European government” , which was organized by IPN News Agency and Radio Moldova.
“European integration means not immediate accession to the EU, but modernization of the country and implementation of projects with the support of the European partners. Five-six years ago, the European integration course went smooth in parts and not so smooth in other parts owing to the interminable political struggles typical of any state. We are glad that relative stability was established and we witnessed 100 days during which the current Government assumed commitments related to the European agenda. The politicians are responsible for the implementation of this roadmap that is to be carried out by the end of July,” said the MP.
Sergiu Sarbu noted also the results achieved by the government. “I ascertain with satisfaction that this plan was already about 60% carried out. We are glad that the rhetoric of the partners is also encouraging. They support the Republic of Moldova and reforms. We must only do them so that the level of stability increases. We should create conditions for investment, for strengthening the rule of law. We invite all the partners to lend us a hand in implementing these reforms. They can consult us constructively as we do it for the whole country. Europeanism for us means better living standard for the people, safety and stability,” he stated.
The MP admitted that the country faces big problems in the justice sector. “During over 20 years, we have tried to reform it. We applied a number of models, but many judges left the system. Others enter the system, but we do not yet manage to reform this sector. Some of the judges continue to pass illegal judgments. The level of corruption is still high. We realize the negative trends in society, but polls can also be interpreted differently,” said Sergiu Sarbu.
The public debate entitled “Europeanism of Moldovan government and society: responsibilities, affinities and dissimilarities in different periods of pro-European government” is the 54th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates”, organized with the support of the German Foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
