If President Nicolae Timofti wants to remain in history as a firm head of state, he should field a candidate for Prime Minister without listening to the parties. This should be candidate supported by the people, who would be able to improve things, deputy head of the People’s Party of the Republic of Moldova Mihail Camerzan said in the public debate: “The post of Prime Minister as a bone of contention. Why?”, which is the 48th installment of the series of debates “Development of political culture by public debates”, staged by IPN together with Radio Moldova.
According to Camerzan, now Nicolae Timofti has a very good chance of showing attitude. “The head of state can now spoil the games of the politicians. I think all the parliamentary parties, except one, are afraid of early legislative elections and this could make them vote in the candidate for premiership proposed by the head of state, even if they would not like this,” he stated.
The deputy head of the People’s Party noted that President Timofti should learn from the behavior and attitude of the President of Romania Klaus Iohanis. “He should do what the Romanian head of state did with the last government. He didn’t ask the parties who should be nominated for Prime Minister and for ministers. When ne named the acting Prime Minister, he also didn’t take into account the proposal of Premier Ponta. The politicians in our country should understand that there is the Constitution and the head of state, who can assume particular risks in situations of crisis. Today the ball is in the President’s court,” he said.
