The group of MPs who are now in power do not represent the voters’ wish of November 30, 2014. That’s why these are not equal partners of those who took to the streets, director of the Institute for Public Policy Arcadie Barbarosie said in the public debate “Need for communication and change. Virtual dialogue between civil society and the government on the prospects of the demands put forward by the Civic Forum”, which is the 50th of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” organized by IPN News Agency in concert with Radio Moldova.
According to the expert, civil society would discuss with the rulers from equal to equal if the government, which is one of our partners in the dialogue, really represented the wish of the people who cast their votes in the November 30, 2014 elections. “We cannot say that these represent the hundreds of thousands of people who voted for them. Given the way in which this alliance was formed, I cannot see a partner in the government because half of the coalition was created by splitting parties for which the people voted in a different way. The Communist voters, for example, didn’t vote to see Artur Reshetnikov near Mihai Ghimpu and vice versa,” said Arcadie Barbarosie.
He also said that the development partners want to see a healthy dialogue between the government and civil society, which would lead to the resolution of the internal crisis, but no steps are being yet taken in this regard. If the demands formulated by the Civic Forum are not met by the authorities, society will be very disappointed. “Things are not simple because, if these demands are not satisfied, the protests will continue. In the period between elections, the people have a series of solutions in this regard: protests, statements, news conferences, meetings with the development parents,” stated Arcadie Barbarosie.
Executive director of the Association for Participatory Democracy (ADEPT) Igor Botan, who is the permanent expert of IPN’s project, considers there is a compound crisis in Moldova that reveals the political culture of the rulers. “The government’s attitude to us is like that to the underground businesses. We know very well how you faint us, but, acting like this, you lie also to the development partners,” he said, addressing the government.
The public debate “Need for communication and change. Virtual dialogue between civil society and the government on the prospects of the demands put forward by the Civic Forum” is the 50th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are supported by the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
