New owners of Air Moldova say they will work to restore company’s reputation

The airline Air Moldova officially became the tenth base of Blue Air. The new owners of Air Moldova during the next three years aim to double the number of aircraft, pilots and flight attendants and will tend to restore the airline’s good name, IPN reports.

Civil Aviation Group SRL became the winner of the contest to privatize the state-owned airline Air Moldova. Founded in August 2018, the company has a subscribed share capital of 500,000 lei, being 49% owned by Blue Air Aviation and 51% onward by two private individuals from the Republic of Moldova.

In a press briefing at the Chisinau International Airport, Blue Air director general Marius Puiu said the activity of Air Moldova will continue to center on the extension of flights and creation of a high-quality product at reasonable prices for Moldovan citizens and not only.

Answering journalists’ questions, Marius Puiu said the debts of Air Moldova will be cleared within the next four months. The name and identity of the airline will not be changed. The director general congratulated Air Moldova on its entry into the family of Blue Air, which has over 1,500 employees and more than 30 planes.

Blue Air commercial director Tudor Constantinescu said that until now Blue Air was oriented to the privatization process, but from now on will work to sustainably develop Air Moldova and to ensure the company’s prosperity.

Civil Aviation SRL director Dzintars Pomers stated that he has experience in the aviation sector and was thus invited to serve as a director. He has the capacity to develop aviation in such a small country as Moldova and will work to transform the company into a profitable one.

Air Moldova director Lilian Scorpan said that now the airline will develop at a new pace. “We set the goal of acquiring newer aircraft. Our mission is to guarantee the safety, comfort and quality of passengers,” he noted.

Air Moldova was privatized at the price of 1.2 billion lei. The new owner will pay 50 million lei into the state budget, while the rest of the sum will go to clear the debts accumulated by the former state-owned airline.
