Valeriu Giletski, who is running as an independent candidate in the presidential elections, said the slogan of his campaign is “Peace, unity and welfare”. According to him, the Republic of Moldova needs peace that should start from each citizen because society is divided according to different criteria – ethnic, religious, language and others - and a divided country cannot survive. The candidate stated his opinions in the electoral public debate “What kind of President is society looking for? What kind of society does the President need?”, staged by IPN news agency.
The candidate referred to the Transnistrian conflict, saying it is a serious problem of the Republic of Moldova. He noted that as an MP, including within the PACE, he pleaded for resolving this conflict by talks.
“The President must make effort to stimulate the negotiations in the 5+2 format and must have private discussions with the Russian Federation. We all know that we will not manage to advance without a dialog with Russia. I think that by diplomatic ways, with the support of the external partners, we should more insistently ask that the Russian Federation should respect its commitments. Control over the state border on the Transnistrian segment should be ensured as integrity is not possible when the border is not controlled,” stated Valeriu Giletski.
Asked by the other participants in the debate what President Giletski will do about the theft of the billions of lei from the banking system, the candidate said the involvement of Kroll was a good move and the next steps will be decided depending on the results of the investigation. When naming the prosecutor general, he will impose the condition of investigating the theft on this so that those to blame could be punished and the money recovered.
The electoral public debate “What kind of President is society looking for? What kind of society does the President need?” forms part of a series of debates that involve candidates for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova. It was the 65th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are organized by IPN with the assistance of the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
