Eugeniu Nichiforciuc: PDM will form coalition only with pro-European parties

The Democratic Party (PDM) will form a new coalition in Parliament only with the parties that declare themselves pro-European and want the country to be reformed and the European development course to be kept so that Moldova integrates into the EU, Democratic MP Eugeniu Nichiforciuc said in the public debate “Chances of AEI 4 and of the Republic of Moldova” that was staged by IPN in cooperation with Radio Moldova.

The lawmaker said the Democratic parliamentary group voted in favor of the dismissal of the Strelet Government because Valeriu Strelet turned into a lawyer for his party colleague Vlad Filat immediately after this was arrested and demanded that the director of the National Anticorruption Center should be dismissed. Such behavior was treated as political revenge.

However, the PDM wants the negotiations be reopened and a new parliamentary majority to be formed, but will do it only together with the pro-European parties. “Mister Lupu himself (chairman of the PDM – e.n.) said that the vote with the opposition does not mean that we will form a coalition with the parties of the left. We want to create a stable majority so as to promote the necessary reforms,” stated Eugeniu Nichiforciuc.

According to him, the PDM always pleaded for ensuring the independence of justice and fighting corruption and is ready to further discuss the reforms needed in the justice sector and in the fight against corruption. But until the investigation into the bank frauds continues, it is illogical for the prosecutor general and the NAC director to be dismissed and the PDM will not allow something like this. “Only the prosecutor general can request removing the immunity of MPs. If someone’s parliamentary immunity needs to be withdrawn during the investigation and we will not have a prosecutor general, what should we do – stop the investigation?” asked the MP.

Eugeniu Nichiforciuc noted that the PDM has many proposals for improving the situation in the field, such as merging the National Anticorruption Center and the National Integrity Commission, and is ready to discuss with all those who are interested in the implementation of the necessary reforms.

The public debate “Chances of AEI 4 and of the Republic of Moldova” is the 43rd installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates”. The project is supported by the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
