George Mocanu: We should go towards EU only with Liberal-Democratic government

The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova fulfilled the promises made to the voters step by step and made the free movement and the association with the EU practically a reality, Lib-Dem George Mocanu said in the public debate “Priorities of the political class and Moldovan society in an electoral year. Position of the parliamentary parties” that was staged by IPN Agency. He added that Moldova should go towards the EU only with a Liberal-Democratic government.

George Mocanu said the priorities of any party are the same – to ensure the people’s safety and prosperous life and to guarantee the rights. “The priorities of the PLDM haven’t changed and we come closer to their accomplishment, step by step. In 2010 we said that we will obtain a liberalized visa regime with the EU and this became a reality in 2014. We defined the steps that must be taken on the path to European integration. Changes must be also made in education. For the first time the allocations for this sector are larger. Another priority is to create jobs and ensure decent incomes. We know that we have yet a lot to do. We must attract foreign investments and repair the roads. We must tell the producers that we will be able to export to the EU duty-free,” he stated.

The justice sector must be reformed and corruption must be eliminated. “We do not use much the parliamentary instruments. We only put forward legislative initiatives,” George Mocanu said, adding that the European officials permanently voted for the liberalization of the visa regime with the open heart as they know that reformation effort is made in Chisinau.

The Liberal-Democrat MP said the situation in Ukraine teaches us lessons. “If we change the course, the people will stage protests. We can ensure national unity and can follow a path together,” stated George Mocanu, adding the people need safety, but owing to the events in Ukraine, Moldova faces problems related to exports and free movement.

The debate “Priorities of the political class and Moldovan society in an electoral year. Position of the parliamentary parties” is the 27th of the series of debates “Development of political culture by public debates”. IPN Agency has staged these debates for the third year, with the support of the German foundation Hanns Seidel and in cooperation with Radio Moldova.
